Feeling flat?
You may feel like you have no energy, unable to think clearly or find it difficult to relax. If you’ve been feeling this way for up to a week there are some simple steps that could really help.
When life is hard, wellbeing is low, you might become stuck in a cycle of negative thoughts, feelings and behaviours. You might think ‘what’s the point in going out – I’m not sleeping, I feel exhausted’. Then this cycle, or something similar, becomes a repeat pattern that negatively impacts your wellbeing.
You are not alone..
Many of us need a little lift to break that negative cycle. Taking care of yourself is a simple but important first step to breaking a negative cycle and starting to feel like yourself again.
Small steps can really help you feel good
Taking a little time each day to do the things that make you feel good can have so many benefits from improving your mood, helping you to think clearer, having more energy and feeling more positive.
The good news is that simple steps don’t have to take up lots of time or cost much money.
Ideas to get you started:
- Watch your favourite film
- Go for a walk
- Do something nice for someone
- Spend time with people you enjoy being with
- Keep a diary of three things you are grateful for each day
- Put together a kit or box with items in that remind you of your past achievements, memories, photos. This increases hope.
- Create a play list of music that you love or helps you to feel peaceful or upbeat.
- If you have access to Apps you might consider practising daily mindfulness or meditation
- Everyone can benefit from creating a safety plan to work out ways to cope. You can find further support about safety plans on the Merseycare website.
